Graham Thorpe Dies at 55

Former England Cricketer and Coach

Former England batter and coach Graham Thorpe has died at the age of 55, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Monday. Thorpe played 100 Tests for England, scoring over 6,000 runs, and was also a key member of the team that won the 2005 Ashes.

Thorpe began his Test career in 1993 with an Ashes century - the first England player to do so on debut since 1938. He went on to score 16 Test centuries, including a career-best 200 not out against Pakistan in 1996.

After retiring from playing, Thorpe worked as a coach for England and Surrey. He was appointed England's batting coach in 2013 and held the position until 2019. He also worked as Surrey's director of cricket from 2020 until his death.

Thorpe's passing at the age of 55 has come as a shock to the world of cricket. He was a highly respected figure in the game, both as a player and a coach. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
