TPM 2.0 Device Not Recognized in Windows 7
Device Manager Shows Unknown Device
Users who have recently installed a TPM 2.0 device on their Windows 7 machines may encounter an issue where the device is not recognized by the operating system. Device Manager will display an "Unknown device" entry with a hardware ID of "ACPI MSFT0101". This indicates that the device is not being properly detected by the system.
Fix Available
To resolve this issue, users need to apply a hotfix from Microsoft. The hotfix can be downloaded here. Once the hotfix is installed, the TPM 2.0 device should be recognized by Windows 7 and the "Unknown device" entry in Device Manager should disappear.
To install the hotfix, right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager". Expand the "Batteries" category and right-click on the "Unknown device" entry. Select "Update Driver Software" and browse to the location of the downloaded hotfix. Once the driver is installed, restart your computer and the TPM 2.0 device should be working properly.
